Dear Friends,

Peace and all good!

As I reflect on the recent elections results, I find myself optimistic about the issues that Wheaton Franciscans have been focusing on over the years. Citizenship is much more than casting a vote. It means being involved in the political process in an ongoing way. We need to urge our congress people to strive for bi-partisan solutions to the problems we all face. We have our work cut out for us.

We will continue our advocacy efforts for peaceful solutions to war, especially in Africa and the Middle East, to promote anti-torture legislation and to eliminate extreme poverty as a means of creating peace. Healthcare and our economy are critical issues. We are also concerned for the environment and sustainable development as other necessary aspects to consider for our local and global communities.

At the end of November, I will be participating in a planning session, hosted by the Friars of the Holy Name Province in Washington, D.C., to discern a national presence for Franciscans. I'm looking forward to this exciting opportunity to discover ways that we can exercise our Franciscan leadership and spirituality in national and international affairs.

May we continue to return only blessing to whatever life presents.
